Volunteer Presenters for Kids Law Day Needed
Join us in making a difference during Kids Law Day each April! This inspiring program invites attorneys, judges, paralegals, and legal secretaries into Sacramento area elementary classrooms for an interactive hour-long presentation. As a team effort, we pair two legal professionals in each classroom—one attorney or judge alongside a paralegal or legal secretary. Right now, eight local Sacramento schools are excited to welcome this program into their 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classrooms! With nearly 1,000 students across over 35 classrooms ready to engage with us, we have a remarkable chance to ignite their interest in legal careers and underscore the vital role the legal profession plays in a just society. Your involvement can help shape the future of these young minds!
Kids Law Day is more than just a break from routine; it’s an exciting adventure where you step out of your office and into the vibrant world of a classroom full of eager young minds! Imagine the looks on the kids' faces as they discover the value of your profession and the meaningful impact you have on their community. Instead of a traditional lecture, this is your chance to connect with students in an engaging, interactive way.
Picture sharing your personal stories that reflect your journey and passion for your work, or captivating them with fascinating case studies that highlight real-life applications. Engage with their curiosity by
encouraging questions and sparking discussions, making them feel like active participants in their own learning. And don’t forget the highlight of the day: a thrilling mock trial skit where students get to don the roles of attorneys, witnesses, and the jury! This hands-on experience not only entertains but also deepens their understanding of the law in a fun and memorable way. As a little surprise at the end of the presentation, you’ll gift each student some school supplies— a token of appreciation that reinforces your investment in their future. Together, let’s inspire the next generation while creating unforgettable memories!
Our priorities.
Scholarships
Every year the SCBF donates multiple $2,000 scholarships to students who have dedicated themselves to serving the Sacramento community upon graduation.
Community Grants
SCBF welcomes grant applications from local organizations who are committed to educating the community about the law and civil rights. Applications are accepted in the Fall and typically awarded in November.
Kids Law Day
Kids Law Day is an annual series where several elementary schools host legal professionals including lawyers and judges in classrooms. These professionals give presentations about the legal field and answer students questions giving kids the opportunity to get to know the “softer” side of the law. Each student gets a backpack of supplies. This year SCBF is raising money to be able to distribute a “Know your rights” coloring book.
Your impact on Sacramento County.
The Sacramento County Bar Association & Foundation is responsible for contributing to scholarships and grants throughout the community. Last year, SCBA and SCBF donated over $8,000 in scholarships and grants to community organizations.
